JOB OVERVIEW:

The Safety Continuous Improvement Manager is responsible for designing, planning, and implementing the Toyota 5S Lean Management and Safety programs to ensure a positive, safe, healthy, organized and incident-free workplace. This includes being responsible for ensuring that TMH associates are trained and compliant with policies that support sustainment of environmental and safety regulatory requirements, TMH specific requirements and 5S practices.


As the Safety champion, you will lead the Safety Committee and work closely with the COO, branch managers, logistics associates, and supervisors/team leads to drive compliance within each of our locations and with our remote employees. The Safety Continuous Improvement Manager is also responsible for addressing special customer requests regarding safety programs and providing all levels of reporting to validate our compliance.


As the Lean 5S Champion, you will work with operational leaders as well as the front-line associates to ensure implementation of the 5S principles with emphasis on sustaining the agreed upon practices and policies.


This job can be located at any one of our 4 branch locations: West Sacramento, Livermore (HQ), Fresno or Salinas and will require travel to all locations using your own vehicle with mileage reimbursement. We have a Work From Home Flexible policy that also allows you to work from your home as agreed with your manager.


KEY HIGH LEVEL RESPONSIBILITIES:


Program Management

  • Provide leadership in developing, implementing, and managing Safety and 5S policies, programs, and practices
  • Lead the company Safety Committee
  • Review and report relevant metrics (e.g. lost time accidents) and associated root cause analysis to determine trends and action plans for remediation and corrective actions
  • Sponsor safety and health activities company-wide to drive a zero accident and injury-free culture across the company
  • Serve as Lean Champion, driving 5S projects across the organization

Policy Management

  • Ensure the company Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) is documented, relevant, up to date and in compliance with applicable OSHA and EPA federal, state, local and company Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) regulations/requirements
  • Coordinate the Job Safety Analysis, Hazard Assessment, functional capacity evaluation/physical ratings, fire protection programs for each site
  • Serve as administrator for all ISN, Avetta and other customer safety programs and required training
  • Oversee Facility Safety Inspections within our company facilities and with remote employees to detect existing or potential incident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventive measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure policy compliance and implementation of corrections
  • Perform safety validations for all new and/or modified facility or road equipment, tools and/or processes

Training

  • Find and/or create and assign training to all employees to ensure compliance and enhance the company 5S and safety culture
  • Lead new employee lean and safety orientation training
  • Provide training and support to local Managers and Logistics Associates to identify workplace hazards, eliminate unsafe conditions, and provide educational resources to reduce/eliminate workplace accidents and inefficiencies
  • Monitor and manage each employee's safety training completion to ensure we remain in compliance

Injury Management

  • Deal with potential injury and incidents and ensure every location has trained employees capable of doing the same
  • Assure that the processes are in place to evaluate and conduct near miss, incident, injury, or illness investigations to discover root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence's
  • Assist with the investigation of all incidents and injuries from initial report to closure
Requirements

Required

  • 3 - 5 years in industrial equipment, manufacturing or construction field
  • 2 + years EH&S experience
  • 2 + years training and implementing 5S / LEAN
  • Practiced in conducting investigations, trend, and root cause analysis to guide 5S/safety accident/injury elimination goals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards of accuracy
  • Must possess a valid driver license with a clear record and ability to drive personal vehicle for business
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite skills

Desired

  • An associate degree or bachelor's degree in EH&S related discipline
  • Experience working in an environment guided by a collective bargaining agreement

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting/Standing/Walking/Driving

  • Approximately 60% is spent seated at a desk, working on the telephone or at a computer terminal
  • Approximately 15% is spent bending, squatting, standing or moving about the work area.
  • Travel is required approximately 25% of the time

Speaking/Hearing

  • Ability to speak read and write English fluently
  • Clear diction, correct grammar and acute hearing are necessary for effective communication with clients, vendors, management and other employees.

Vision

  • Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary to effectively use computer screens, file documents and drive
